حکیم ابوالقاسم فردوسی در شاهنامه، تاریخ را جایگاه تفکر و عبرت می‌دانند. اما در این سال‌ها، برخی (به ویژه باستانگرایان و ملی‌گرایان) این اصل را رها کرده؛ تاریخ را ابزار فخرفروشی‌های نابخردانه قرار داده اند.
